Solution to choppy video playback on VLC app on M3 and M4 Macs

I've been using VLC to play back videos for years on both Mac and Windows machines.  It's a great app.

I recently bought new M3 and M4 Macs to replace my old Intel Mac machines.  Most apps work just fine on the newer Macs.

VLC, however, has not worked well -- videos are always stuttering or buffering, playing back so they look choppy.  I've been using IINA instead, which plays videos back beautifully.  I finally had some time this weekend to try to resolve the problem with VLC.

I went through all the suggestions on the web.  I uninstalled VLC completely (I think), installed the most recent version, and tried increasing File Caching and other settings.

This is the solution that finally worked for me:
Under Settings > Video > Output modules -- change Video output module to "Mac OS X Open GL video output".
